Casting a Sacred Circle
When preforming spells or rituals it is always a great idea to cast a circle first. Here the energies can be built up without dissipation & they are focused & concentrated. It is also much easier to dissolve the spell & start again if the energies don't feel right when working in a sacred circle. This is because they are contained within the circle until the spell is done & dissolution within the circle reduces the risk of residual energies from the spell 'floating' about that may infer with further energy work.
Before you begin to set up for the circle casting it is a good idea to cleanse yourself & focus on the task which will help build intent. Do this by either smudging yourself with white sage/desert sage/white copal (or a combination of all) or you can have a cleansing/purifying bath or shower (sea salt scrubs are great for these). Other tips can be found on the Spell/Ritual Preparation page.

- A Coal Tablet
- An Altar Cloth

You Are Ready to Begin:
- Begin by setting up your sacred space refer to Spells/Ritual Preparation.
- We use our altar, clearing enough space for the candle to sit in a circle shape, if you don't have an altar use a table/floor.
- Concentrate & focus on the intent of your spell.
- Try to use an altar cloth which can be any cloth that you want i.e. a large scarf, small table cloth or purpose made/bought altar cloth.
- We have several for different purposes & seasons of the year, you don't need different ones for each use however sometime you may feel a particular colour or style feels better for certain energy work.
- Try to keep them for energy use only & not day to day activities.
- Lay an Altar cloth down.
- Decorate to suit your own style & preferences, what ever you feel will help you focus your intent.
- Place t/light candles & tumble stones red/fire, green/air, brown/earth, blue/water in a circle at the appropriate compass points (i.e. fire/north, air/east, earth/south, water/west).
- You can use t/lights or colour candles only if you wish, the intent is the important part to focus on these are tools to help focus that intent.
- You as the caster are the representation of spirit (fifth element).
- You can use stones/crystals/candles in the formation of a pentagram as well within the compass points circle to represent all five elements at once.
- Have some white sage or your chosen cleansing incense ready, having it already burning is often helpful.
- As you recite the following light the candles or use the incense over each compass point clockwise.
- You can start at any compass point you feel is right for you we usually start from North/Fire.
- When closing the circle start with the last candle compass point that was lit & blow them out counter clockwise while reciting the closing part of the circle casting.

To those of North & Fire, East & Air, South & Earth, West & Water,
I/We ask you enter this sacred place,
And bring your love, wisdom, energy & grace,
I/We ask you bless this sacred space.
Recite the following to close the circle
